Shipwreck Beach, also known as Navagio Beach, is undoubtedly one of the most iconic and photographed beaches in Greece. Its name comes from the shipwreck of the smuggling vessel MV Panagiotis, which ran aground on the beach in the 1980s under mysterious circumstances.
Located on the northwestern coast of Zakynthos, Shipwreck Beach is accessible only by boat. The journey there offers stunning views of the dramatic limestone cliffs that surround the cove and the crystal-clear turquoise waters of the Ionian Sea.
Once you arrive at the beach, you’re greeted by the sight of the rusty remains of the shipwreck contrasted against the white sandy beach and the azure waters. It’s a breathtaking scene that’s perfect for photography enthusiasts.
While swimming and sunbathing are popular activities at Shipwreck Beach, it’s important to note that the area can get crowded during peak tourist seasons. However, the sheer beauty of the landscape makes it worth the visit, and many people find that the experience of seeing the famous shipwreck in person is unforgettable.
